Topic(s) | Alfred: The Restaurant Suggestion App |
Alfred, much like Urbanspoon or Open Table, is an application for iOS and Android devices which suggests restaurants to its users based on conversations it has with them. This application was created by Clever Sense in 2011 and purchased by Google later in that year. Despite being originally designed specifically for iOS devices, an Android version of the application was released shortly after Clever Sense was purchased by Google in late 2011.
This presentation seeks to understand and examine the Knowledge Based systems behind Alfred, and why he does, and sometimes doesn't, work so well. Some examples of the application working poorly are its tendency to sometimes suggest a Steakhouse to a vegetarian, this presentation will cover why this happens, but is more of an exploration and examination of the application's processes, and not meant to pose any solutions to its downfalls.
