Abstract

The Music Genome Project was created in 1999 with the purpose of "capturing the essence of music at the fundamental level". The project describes songs using roughly 400 attributes. The songs are then organized using complex math algorithmes. MGP creates a vector from the attributes of a song and uses distance functions to suggest similar songs.

Pandora Radio owns the Music Genome Project and uses it for playing songs on its radio stations.
