AbstractEdit

Systems that give recommendations are becoming more popular in today’s culture. Many people think given a recommendation is very simple to do, however it is often a very complex task to handle. Netflix for example held a 1 million dollar challenge for anyone who could raise their current prediction score by 10% and this took 3 years to complete. In this presentation I will be talking about different approaches that recommendation systems take to provide the best predictions for their users. This includes collaborative filtering, contest-based filtering, and hybrid filtering. I will also talk about how Netflix’s current recommendation scheme works.
